Hmph

Well, in good news, I'm back in the gym.  I went last Tuesday and Thursday, and will be going tonite, tomorrow, and Wednesday of this week.

In bad news, holy hell, my heel spur is bothering me like crazy!  Both nights at the gym, I did 20 minutes on the elliptical (it's been two months since working out, I know that I'm going to need to work back up again to that hour I was hitting on it), and then hopped on the treadmill for a bit to keep my heart rate up and stretch my legs out.  But even on the elliptical, where there's no impact, my heel started hurting.  I've been wearing my thick soled walking shoes that I'm supposed to wear to help my feet.  Pretty sure I'm going to have to break down and get the cortisone shot I've been postponing.  Boo.  My heel ached all weekend as well despite me continuing to wear the good (albeit kinda ugly) walking shoes.  I've been icing it and doing the plantar fasciitis exercises and stretches.  Any other ideas aside from breaking down and getting the shot?  I don't really want to pay $400 for orthotics either.

But at least I'm getting back into a routine.  If nothing else, I'll stick to weight machines for awhile to keep me off my foot, but I do so love the elliptical!

Ouch!

Well that was fun.  Saturday before last, I had a raging headache all day, the kind that you just want to stay in a dark, cool room and hibernate with.  Well, it's 106 degrees here so my house won't cool completely, and I have an 8 year old hot mess.  Didn't happen, but at least I could keep it dark.  Hah.  In any case, it only got worse, stretching into Sunday, Monday, then Tuesday.  I finally headed to urgent care.  Turns out I had both a sinus and ear infection, with my ear drum very close to busting.  Hello, shot of antibiotics in the butt.  TMI, I know.  I thought I had some sinus issues, I'd had more drainage lately, and the week before all that, every now and then, my eye would get itchy, and if I barely touched it, it would go bloodshot.  So I knew something was up but had no idea it was that bad.  During my 4 days home, I did make sure to rock the smoothies, packing in extra spinach.  I can't say I didn't have comfort food otherwise, but I did try to get my vitamins upped.

Several days later now, I just finished antibiotics (yup, pill form as well) and ear drops, and I still have a mild headache most of the day.  But at least the eye issue is gone, and it's not THAT bad.  It's liveable.  I know the heat is playing a part.  I also ended up really dehydrated today, so have been pumping in water, and downed a bottle of gatorade at lunch.  MUST stay on top of the water!!!  These fat cells need it apparently...lol

My goal this week is to get in 3 days of working out.  I need to get back on schedule with that!

That fruit/veggie goodness

Every day this week except today, I've made a smoothie in the morning.  They consist of 2 handfuls of fresh spinach, a handful of frozen strawberries, handful of frozen blueberry, and a splash or two of V8 fruit/veggie juice (there are so many different ways, this is just what I have on hand right now).  And all 3 mornings, I have a lot of energy, feel good, mommy super strength.  Now, I've done smoothies before, and each time, I had this feeling too.  There's just something about chugging all that raw goodness!  In any case, I did not make a smoothie this morning and I can def say that even with rockin the caffeine, I'm feeling sluggish.  Just thought I'd note this.  I love my ugly smoothies (although with the blueberries, they aren't super ugly, very purple-ish, instead of rotten green...lol) and I promise, if you are hesitant to try them, you seriously can NOT taste the spinach or tell it's in there other than color.  Try it sometime!!!!  Once I put sliced cucumber in there...still couldn't taste it, but it added a really neat freshness to the smoothie.  Sometimes, I add greek yogurt, or if I have banana, I'll add some peanut butter.  I tend to use frozen fruits so that I don't have to add ice.  What is your fave smoothie combo?

Not just a one time post

See?  I didn't really leave you guys...still here.  Second post this week, go me!

Update from yesterday, I ended up not going to the gym.  When I picked D up, he'd had an awful day, so we went straight home and I put him to bed after dinner.  The good news, I made a totally kickass dinner and he devoured it.  What was it?  A grilled cheese sandwich with avocado and East Texas tomato slices inside.  YUM!  I used I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray on the bread and a bit of garlic salt, so aside from the cheese, it really wasn't too bad.  I used less cheese on mine and it was still delicious.  Add a side of fruit (natural applesauce for D, an orange for me) and you have a meal that is simple, easy, and no oven (too hot here for that!).

Today I'm taking D to his GI doctor appt in the afternoon, but otherwise it should be a fairly typical day, so I should be able to stay on track esp since I already have food at work (and already had my ugly smoothie this morning too!)

Almost 3 months later

Ooof.  I'm a slacker, sheesh.  Not that I didn't have enough going on the last 3 months.  My last post was on May 2nd regarding date night.  Well, I WAS dating someone.  It ended towards the end of May.  I have since seriously slacked on working out and eating good, and in fact the first month, I didn't even ATTEMPT to eat decent.  It wasn't pretty.  However I've held a few things together (such as not falling back into downing Dr Pepper...that was a BIGGIE for me), but yeah, I've gone backwards.  So...today is a new day.  It's had a good start, I got up early and made an ugly spinach smoothie (those are SO stinkin yummy!), and have already downed 32oz of water at 11:15am.  I also went to the store at lunchtime and got decent food for teh whole week for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, so I have no excuse whatsoever for leaving the office at lunchtime.  This evening, we are planning to hit up the gym.  I am pretty sure that I'm back at square one, but that's ok, it didn't take me long to work up to that hour on the elliptical.

Ok so 3 months...time flew.  Here's what else went on!  Well, there was the dating.  She ended it.  That's right.  She.  I did go on 2 dates with another chick shortly after, who I connected pretty well with, but ended up realizing pretty quick that I needed time to heal.  So I cut that off.  I can't say I haven't browsed around online or talked to a couple of other chicks, but overall, I'm trying to use this time to process and just make sure I'm fully prepared next time around.  And I can't say that I'm not a little jaded from the whole experience, but I guess that's a part of life.  I did learn a lot from it, took a lot away from it, so I can honestly say I do not regret it.

I had a birthday last week.  I'm now 33 years old.  Not quite old but not quite young, I'm not sure where I fit in.   In any case, happy freakin bday to me.  Weekend before last, D and I took a roadtrip to Missouri to see one of my best friends.  It was just what I needed, to get out of Dallas and Texas for a second.  Unfortunately we kinda brought the hot weather with us.  Oh well.

Ok on to the boychild.  He had a birthday in June.  He is now 8 years old going on 30.  He had an MRI done on his foot, there's a lump there.  The orthopedist determined though that it was just cartilage and some bone, wasn't doing him any harm and it could safely stay on his foot as long as it's not bothering him (it's not).  And really soon now (1 month!!!), he will be going into second grade.  *gasp* I know!  So I've been getting ready for that.

He also is about to see another specialist.  The last two years he has battled eating issues.  He was actually diagnosed as failure to thrive for awhile, might still be, I'm not sure how they determine that.  But regardless, he's skinny.  His weight has definitely fluctuated.  He'd gain a pound and then lose 2.  However, his new pedi (SO GLAD WE SWITCHED) thinks she knows what it is and is sending us to a GI doctor to get an endoscopy done.  Will update on that later.

I believe that's about it.  I'm definitely back to updating this again so stay tuned, much more to come.

Date night

I knew it was gonna be bad well in advance.  We went to Cheesecake Factory.  I wish I'd looked at the menu ahead of time though, as they now have a Skinnilicious menu that looked pretty good!  But I had barely eaten all day to accommodate, and already knew what I wanted, so I didn't deviate.

All I really ate during the day was some Spaghetti-os that I shared with D.  He had to be at work with me for a big portion of the day.  So by the time we got to dinner I was starving.  That might not be the best idea again, but I have such a hard time esp if around other people who eat typical.  I did manage to only have one small piece of sourdough bread.  Then I got the crusted chicken romano.  Basically, parmesan chicken with spaghetti.  I ate half the chicken, and then about 1/4th of the pasta (huge portions!).  We did order cheesecake, but split a piece and I took exactly two bites and then put my fork down.  That was GOOD cheesecake tho.  lol  I also had a glass of sweet tea to end my day at 2102 calories.

No workout today as we didn't get home til really late, but I feel like I was on the go all day just nonstop.  Tomorrow will be back to the gym.

Home workout

I feel so stupid...like really really stupid.  Today ended up being another day where I couldn't hit the gym.  D had such an awful day at school, that I had to get him early, and I just couldn't reward him with a gym trip.  He was in bed early and I was sitting on the couch bemoaning the fact that I couldn't workout.  Do you see where the stupidity is coming in?  Hell, I even used to have a trainer who would COME to my house.  I KNOW what I can do at home.  Cue lightbulb moment.  See below for what I ended up doing.

Food wasn't great, I really struggled with emotional eating today.  I kept my cals ok, but not proud of the choices.  Breakfast was some crackers.  For lunch, I had a heat up beef stew meal, and then a string cheese and some chips.  Dinner was a corn dog and some curly fries with a bit of light ranch.  And then in the evening, I added vodka to my Diet Dr Pepper to end my day at 2008 calories.

Workout:  once my lightbulb moment hit, I got busy!  Put my headphones on and busted out 3 sets of 15 squats, then 2 sets of 30 ball crunches.  I also grabbed my 12 lb weight and did tricep dips, bicep curls, and I don't know what it's called but where I held the weight out in front of me straight, and then out to the side straight.  (My arms were SO trembly after that).  Then to shake it all out and just get some cardio in, I did some general dancing around to the music til I got nice and sweaty.  It felt great!

Darn the donuts!

Yeah...read the title.  A coworker brought some in and I was doing so good at avoiding them, til I had to go in his office to discuss a work issue.  I caved.  But kept the rest of the day fairly light to accomodate.  Urgggh, darn donuts though.

Food: breakfast: crackers and then *bag over head* TWO of those darn donuts.  Lunch was a heat up manicotti meal, plus a small ham sandwich, a few chips, and a pickle (they catered in lunch at work from Jimmy Johns).  Dinner was bbq meatballs, mashed potatoes, and green beans to end my day at 1677 calories.  I could tell I wanted to snack so I ended up going to bed really early.

Workout:  none today, D had a crappy day back at school and was super emotional when I picked him up, so I just couldn't see taking him to gym daycare.

Mexican food is my downfall

It really is...fortunately, I knew we were going out with family so I was able to keep the rest of the day light to compensate.

For breakfast, I just had a whole wheat tortilla with some no cal butter spray. And after the gym, I had a Muscle Milk Light. Nothing else til the early dinner. We went to Cristina's. I had some chips and queso (but not a lot...), and then got the brisket flautas. This evening, I had some yogurt raisins to end my day around 1964 calories.

Workout: I hopped on the elliptical today for 25 minutes at a fairly moderate pace. I then headed to the weight machines and spent about 30 minutes going through the paces of those. And finally, I hit the ab room for crunches, plus the evil dual ab crunch machine (that sucker is HARD).

Back to working out

Got up today ready to work out. So we hit the gym early.

Food: breakfast was a whole wheat tortilla before the gym. Afterward, I had a Muscle Milk Light and then some crackers. I wasn't super hungry. For a late lunch, I made some noodles with No cal butter spray and spinach. Gosh today is a carb day apparently. For dinner, we had tacos, and I had some popcorn in the evening to end my day around 2245 calories.

Workout: I completed W2D2 of C25K! Woohoo!! I rounded out the walking to 40 minutes total. I was drained, but still feeling really good about it. I'm not fast, but I feel like I'm getting in the groove of it nicely. I was even able to up the speed on everything, including the minute and a a half runs!

Hospital stay

Ok so today and tomorrow were spent in the hospital with D. He had to have a 24 Hour EEG done to see if there is seizure activity. So I will be posting both days here together. One day was ok, one day was not so much. And that's ok.

Thursday: food: I had some crackers and an apple juice box on the way to the hospital. We got checked in and finally were able to order some lunch in the room. I got a turkey club sandwich (no mayo), plus some chips, orange slices, and a tiny garden salad with ranch dressing. The food at Children's is ordered room service style, so you can pick whatever you want. This proved to be dangerous tomorrow but today I held on to it. For dinner, I got grilled chicken, with sliced tomatoes and some sourcream, watermelon, and hummus with pita chips ("Hummus, I got the hummus!" - name that tv show). The evening was insane, as they gave D an anti-itch med (not benadryl) and he had a minor reaction to it (he went kinda crazy...lol) so nothing else to eat. I ended my day, hanging on to cals at 1846 calories.

Friday: food: Today was rough. I was too tired to care. For Breakfast, I had a string cheese, a granola bar, orange slices, and an apple juice. I didn't order a meal for breakfast, just scrounged from what D had...lol (And I brought the granola bar with me). For lunch, I had a quesadilla, watermelon, and curly fries. I know. Not sure what the hell got into me there!! We got out of there a little after lunchtime, came home, took a nap, and then I threw some frozen pizza in the oven for D and I to split for dinner.   Later in the evening, I had some yogurt raisins and several diet cokes with vodka.  lol Yeah, classy, huh?  I'm not sure what my cals were...I think they were around 2500.  Blech.  Especially for a no work out day.

Workout: none either day. And I did a lot of sittin around.

Ate more today

I knew I wanted to get in a kickass workout today so I made sure to eat more as well so I'd have energy. (It was not without consequence tho...I did have a sweet)

Food: breakfast was a granola bar and then some yogurt raisins later. Lunch was a chicken sandwich from Wendy's. In the afternoon, I had a choc chip cookie that they baked at work. It was warm...and gooey. It was not able to be resisted. Before the workout, I had a whole wheat tortilla with a little I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray. And afterward, we had pizza and a salad with zesty italian light dressing, plus I had a Muscle Milk Light to end my day at 2026 calories.

Workout: I busted out 45 minutes on the elliptical and am DRENCHED in sweat...lol I also did about 15 min on the treadmill at a slow pace to work the kinks out afterward. I am feeling GREAT.

Another low day

Well it WAS a rest day...I'd hit the gym Friday, Sat, Sun AND Monday, so tonite was some much needed muscle rest.

Food: breakfast was a cup of Easy Mac and an applesauce. I don't know what it is about that dang Easy Mac that warms me up in the morning and keeps me going. But it's soothing so.... For lunch, I met a friend at Schlotzskys and ended up getting a small pizza. I love their pesto sauce on it. In the afternoon, I had some yogurt raisins. And for dinner, I really wasn't hungry, so I ended up just having a Muscle Milk Light to end my day at 1235 calories.

Workout: none. But I will tomorrow as Thursday is gonna be a forced rest day with D in the hospital all day and over night. Not sure what Friday looks like either as we likely won't get out til well after noon. But I'll try.

Monday, April 23, 2012

Oops, way low day

Ok it was not intentional, I just wasn't that hungry today for some reason.  I'll make it up another day...lol

Food:  breakfast was a cup of Easy Mac.  For lunch, I had a heat up meal, but it was NASTY so ended up ordering in Jimmy Johns for lunch.  I had a turkey, provolone, avocado sandwich (no mayo) with lettuce and tomato.  Midafternoon, I had a granola bar.  And after the gym, D and I had crispy tacos for dinner (I had 2) to end my day at 1201 calories.

Workout:  despite the lack in calories, I felt really good through my workout.  I completed W2D1 of C25K which was 33 minutes long, and I evened it out to 40 minutes total with a light recovery walk.  And then went on to do 20 minutes on the elliptical.  Woot!  I also did a ton of house cleaning.  Tomorrow is a rest day so no workout.

Sunday, April 22, 2012

Low day but best to stop

It wasn't intentionally a low day but I'm just not that hungry this evening, and I'm afraid if I have a snack, I'll want to eat MORE. So I'm just staying out of the kitchen. lol

Food: I had a whole wheat tortilla before the gym. We had a late lunch afterward at Jason's Deli. I had a bowl of broc cheese soup, plus a salad bar (spring mix, cheese, carrots, light ranch, a tiny bit of bacon bits, 1 crouton (theirs are big) and a pickle slice. Dinner was a Stouffers Saute meal - cheese ravioli with spinach, mushrooms and grilled chicken in an asiago sauce. Pretty good! This ended my day at 1530 calories.

Workout: I completed W1D3 of C25K, despite waking up with sore hamstrings from yesterday's battle between my body and mind. I felt really good, sweaty, yes, but my knees felt awesome and my feet did not hurt too bad. I also went on to do some Ab work, about 20 minutes of that. My body is feeling stronger and I am loving it.

What a battle

I got up this morning with so much motivation to work out. We headed straight there at 9am, I got on the elliptical...and...had nothing. Now granted, Wed was a tough workout and last night, I did a C25K round, but still. My body was like F this at 7 minutes in. I felt SO SO sluggish. (And this is a routine we've been doing, as far as eating, etc so even though I didn't have as much before to eat, I don't think it was a nutritional issue.) Anyway, see below for what I ended up doing. But do know, this day was a TOTAL battle between body and mind, and I forced my way through it.

Ok on to food: Before the gym, I had a bit of a PBJ. Not a whole one, wasn't feeling this new bread I got (the thin ones...blah too dense). After the gym, we babysat for 2 awesome kiddoes, so I ordered pizza for everyone. I had 3 slices. Then for dinner, we hit up the Studio Movie Grill to see Mirror Mirror. I was NOT good and ordered the chicken strips and french fries, but I ended up only ate 2 small pieces of the chicken and a handful of fries with ketchup (basically I refuse to order a freakin 12 dollar SALAD there...). A bit later, after some cruising around at the mall, I had a small sweet tea from CFA to end my day at 1886 calories.

Workout: Ok, despite the battle I still knocked out 30 minutes on the elliptical at a decent rate of speed. And then 10 minutes on the treadmill to work out the kinks.

Friday, April 20, 2012

W1D2 and a low day

Yup, still going to be pluggin along at the C25K. Well, my app now calls it the Ease Into 5K, same thing. I so almost didn't go to the gym tonite. Wasn't feeling it, was tired, but got in the car with D to go to the store and next thing I knew we were almost to the gym. I had a water bottle in the car and was wearing my sneakers...so I figured why not. I am so glad I did! Left the gym feeling refreshed and ready to take on the weekend.

Food is low today: breakfast was a granola bar and an applesauce. Lunch was beefstew (don't hate, I get the Dinty Moore stuff), plus Fritos, and then about a half a slice of leftover pizza at work. Midafternoon, I was kinda hungry still so had a cup of Easy Mac. Before the gym I had half a tortilla, and then afterward I had a grilled chicken sandwich (no mayo, just ketchup, lettuce and tomato), plus a few filtched tots from D (yeah we went to Sonic...lol) and then a Muscle Milk Light when I got home to end my day at 1723 calories.

Workout: W1D2 of C25K, which is 26 minutes, and I finished out to 30 minutes with a light walk. The walking parts of it were at 2.5Mph and the running was 3.0. Ya know, its funny, when I first started at the gym, I had to work UP to 2.5Mph, it seemed so fast with my short legs, but now it seems pretty easy. Also, originally, I'd hold on to that treadmill like my life depended on it. I'm not sure exactly when I got more comfy with it, but now I'm barely ever holding on to it while walking AND running. I'm working on getting my form decent during the running parts. I'll touch the side or handrails every now and then to readjust my balance but I think it's pretty neat that I don't need them now.

Thursday, April 19, 2012

How did I manage that??

It was a big eating day, but somehow I managed to keep my cals under 1900.  Wow.

Food:  breakfast was a granola bar.  Lunch was at work where they had a luncheon.  I had one hot dog with some chili on it, plus some frito chili pie, a bunch of carrot sticks with a tiny bit of ranch dip, some grapes and an apple sauce.  Dinner, it was date night, so we went to Pappasitos.  I had a few chips, a margarita swirl, and then not even half of my chicken quesadilla, and one tortilla.  It's hard to talk and eat!  So I figured not eating would be better...lol  I ended my day at 1862 calories.

Workout:  none since I went out.  I'm incredibly sore from yesterday though, so I did lots of stretching throughout the day.

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Low day

See, I CAN get my cals low...lol I didn't have an insane workout lengthwise, but let me tell ya, I left the gym tonite with my arms and legs feeling like JELLO. My trainer worked the hell out of me in just 30 minutes. Ouch.

Food: Breakfast was a granola bar and a banana. Lunch was some easy mac with a can of tuna mixed in, and some green beans. Sigh, my afternoon snack was some peanut m&ms. Before the gym I had a PBJ sandwich, and then afterward, I downed a Muscle Milk Light, and later, had some spaghetti to end my day at 1616 calories.

Workout: I walked 15 minutes on the treadmill before meeting with my trainer to warm up. Then she put through hell for 30 minutes. I honestly tried to get on the elliptical AND the treadmill after this workout, but I had nothing left to give. lol I'm gonna be sore tomorrow.

Crappy choice but decent calorie day

It was just an emotional day all over (not an excuse, but that's just how it was). Had to take D for bloodwork and they couldn't get blood out, so it was a lot of digging and he finally lost it. Then I had to go get him early from school as he was DONE. Needless to say, I did not make great choices. It was quite the cheesy day.

Food: after bloodwork we stopped for donuts. I had 3 kolaches (and 1 stolen donut hole from D). Then for lunch I had beef stew and a string cheese. I got called to get D shortly after, and he was hungry so I made a frozen pizza and we split it. Then I didn't eat again til late, and I made a spinach/cheese quesadilla to end my day at 1625 calories.

Workout: no actual workout as D had to go to bed early, but I did do 20 squats in my living room.

Monday, April 16, 2012

So much for low cals

Yeah I had it all planned out to stay under 1700 cals...then I worked out hard and burned about 900 cals and realized I was starving. So today was back to normal. But most days I will try to be under 1700...lol

Food: Breakfast was a granola bar and a banana. Midmorning I had a string cheese. Lunch was some heat up mac n cheese and I mixed in a can of tuna. In the afternoon we had a party at work, and I had a small piece of cake, and then some apple sauce. Before the gym, I had a tortilla with some cheese in it. After the gym, we stopped at Sonic (I only got a corndog) and then later I made a cup of noodles with some tomato sauce to end my day at 2136 calories.

Workout: 10 minutes on the elliptical as a warm up, and then 25 minutes of weight training. After that, I went back to the elliptical for another 30 minutes. I was SO tired!!! But it felt so good!

Starting something new

So I've been loving the elliptical but I need something to work towards. I decided to start the C25K program (Couch to 5K). There's an app for it and it basically ramps you up to running a 5K. Do I think my feet can handle it? I dunno. But so far so good. Some foot pain, but my knees are great, just need more cushion in my shoes. I love that it dings at me to walk or run...lol Ok just for the sake of keeping track...I did the walk parts at 2.5 mph, and the running at 3.0mph.

Food: breakfast was just some crackers. Lunch after the gym was at Chili's. I had chips and salsa, and then got the Monterey Chicken (my fave!) which is grilled chicken with some bbq sauce, bacon and cheese on top, plus mashed tatoes, and broccoli. I also had a side of ranch with the broc. Dinner was a banana and a muscle milk light to end my day at 1521 calories. You'll notice (hopefully) that the next few weeks, my cals are way less than 2000. I can tell I'm building muscle but I need to get to burning more fat, so I'm going to drop those under 1700 or so from now on. Maybe one day a week I'll go higher but for now, yeah.

Workout: I started out with 5 min on the elliptical to warm up, then did half my usual weight training machines. My workout buddy had a flat tire so we had to leave the gym to help her and then came right back. I did Week 1 Day 1 (w1d1) of C25K. It lasted 26 minutes and I walked a few extra minutes to make an even 30 min. After that, my workout buddy and I headed to the ab room. I did the Ab Coaster machine, plus crunches. Then we did some teamwork stuff with the 6lb ball. I was appropriately freakin exhausted. This doesn't count as a workout but I also did some grocery shopping and house cleaning. lol I'm tired!

Splurge day

So today was a splurge day for me. I'll still list what I ate, but not counting cals on the monthly splurge day.

No breakfast...lunch we met friends at Cristinas. I had some chips and queso, and the flautas, plus 2 tortillas. Yummy! For dinner, I went to Movie Tavern for an evening out. I saw the Hunger Games, so good! While there, I got a pepperoni pizza with some ranch. Then on the way home (like 11pm) I stopped and got some fries and sweet tea. Yeah, def splurge. Like I said, no calorie counts.

No workout. I was going to go early but needed the sleep more!

Friday, April 13, 2012

Friday the 13th...ooooooooh

I was quite eager to get back in the workout grind tonite. It helped that I had some frustration with D in school so I really kicked butt.

Food: breakfast was crackers. Lunch was a frozen meal. In the afternoon, I had some peanut butter crackers. I knew we were goin out to dinner so I kept it light. After the gym, we met up with some friends at Chuys. I heart Chuys. I had some chips and queso, and their amazing creamy jalapeno dip. Then I got a steak taco salad (but didn't eat the bowl and gave D the guacamole). I did have two tortillas instead. And am ending my day at 2305 calories.

Workout: I did 35 minutes on the elliptical, at a pace of about 200 strides MORE than 2 nights ago. Woot! I was rocking it! And then a slow 10 minutes on the treadmill to get my heart rate down. I burned about 700 cals with that!!! YES.

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Off day

Real quick...

Food: breakfast was crackers. Lunch was Panera. I had a cup of broc cheese soup with a baguette, plus a lowfat smoothie. In the afternoon, I had some popcorn, and then dinner...sigh. I'll admit, I was stressed about a date, and ate too much at Taco Bell. :( I ended up ok on cals at 1842 calories, but 3 cheese rollups and 2 tacos...is NOT a good thing.

I took the day off working out as I had a date this evening and could not find the time. So nothing there.

Revelation

So I had a revelation today. I know, scary, huh? Well, I noticed that with 4 days off of working out, it got more and more difficult to control my food cravings. If I'd gone another day, I might have binged. Today I did go workout and tonite I'm fine. It's like I don't wanna mess up the kickass workout (and too tired to care anyway...lol) This is more motivation to keep working out!

Food: calories were a bit higher but not bad. I underestimated my dinner. But still in a good range. Breakfast was sandwich crackers. Lunch was at first a little Hormel Compleats meal, but it kinda sucked and I was still hungry, so I made some tuna salad and had some dill chips with it. In the afternoon, we had cake for my coworkers birthday. I had a small piece. On the way to the gym, I had two peanut butter crackers. And afterward, we grabbed Schlotzskys. I had the roasted turkey, havarti, avocado sandwich and some chips to end my day at 2203 calories.

Workout: 35 minutes on the elliptical!! After that, AF started back up again so we just headed on home. But man, am I beat!!

Last day off working out

So AF is starting to slow, but today it was still a PITA so I took one more day off working out. Tomorrow it's back to killin it. And I can't wait! I can tell it's getting harder to keep up the good eating, and I also need a good grocery store run to stock up on more fresh fruits and veggies.

Food: Breakfast was some sandwich crackers. Lunch was mini ravioli and some baked chips. (See, can you tell I'm out of all my fruits and stuff...sigh). For snack in the afternoon, I had a little bit of chocolate and some more crackers. Then dinner, I made some chicken in the skillet, added frozen broccoli and fries to the side, with a little ranch dressing to dip it in to end my day at 1907 calories. Not a great day overall. The calories were good, but the choices were not, so I don't feel good about it.

Workout: nothin. Back to it tomorrow though.

An off day

With af still ravaging me, I stayed home today from work. D and I had been up all night (he's dealing with other stuff).

Food: for lunch, I had leftover roast, plus some instant mashed potatoes and green beans. I had a snack of two cheese rollups. Dinner was taco night! I had 3. This evening, I really struggled with a pizza craving. Like, I was shaking from it! I wanted so bad to order pizza (a huge downfall of mine). But I ended up making some popcorn with extra salt (ssh don't tell my trainer...) and that got me through the craving. Thank God! I also had some chocolate and ended my day at 2006 cals.

Workout: I did do some arm weights at home. But no official workout.

Happy Easter!!

With AF being a PITA, which means no gym, I had to eat decent today. Problem is, it's Easter Sunday. We went to my grandma's house for lunch, and with a few minor adaptations, I did ok.

*edited to add: shoot, I totally forgot about the green bean casserole! So add some extra cals to that number below...*

No breakfast. Lunch was: roast beef, rice, cottage cheese, blackeyed peas, and biscuits. I did skip the sweet tea and made sure to not get a lot of anything. I'm glad I did because dessert was my aunt's homemade carrot cake. I request this for my birthday EVERY year as it's my fave cake, and she rarely makes it otherwise, so I could not resist a piece. Gotta take it how I can get it!!! I also had a glass of milk. This evening for dinner, I had another biscuit (brought home some leftovers) but then made myself a big smoothie made of strawberries, blueberries, spinach, cucumber slices, yogurt and some apple juice. Later on, I had some popcorn to end my day at 1883 calories.

Workout: none. But the gym childcare was closed today anyway so it would have been a rest day regardless.

Derailed for a minute

So "that time of the month" started today. Blech. Which means that I likely won't be able to hit the gym for several days. But I was prepared, I worked out really good yesterday, and I know I'll need to keep my cals a bit lower, no big Easter splurges. I'm def bummed about no gym, but I just am not comfortable when moving around. It's ok though, this is temporary.

Food...we ended up going over to a friend's house today to hang out and let the kids have an easter egg hunt. I didn't eat before going, aside from grabbing an unsweet tea from Sonic, so when I got there, I had some chips and dip (but made sure to put them on a plate so I wouldn't just be mindlessly munching). We were supposed to eat at 2, but it didn't happen til almost 5...so that was all I had til dinner! Dinner was grilled chicken thighs with bbq sauce, sausage, bacon potatoes (every bit as evil as it sounds!!! but oh so yummy) and strawberry spinach salad. I had moderate amounts of all since I knew I had plenty of room. I also had a cup of pink lemonade and a few Starburst. Then later, dessert was fruit pizza and I had a slice of that to end my day at 1812 calories.

Workout: not one bit. Sigh.

Low day but a switchup

Yeah, its a low cal day. But, there was a ton of sweets up at work and I kind of went overkill trying to avoid it all that I didn't eat a ton during the day.

Food: breakfast was easy mac and applesauce. Lunch was Chili's. I had the lighter choice sirloin steak with broccoli and a side salad with lowfat ranch. Afternoon snack was crackers and then some almonds. I had 1/2 a pbj before the gym. Then afterward, we swung by El Pollo Regio. I got carne asada. So with that, I ate the beef, with rice, lots of salsa, corn tortillas, and I added some ranch dressing to boost my cals more. Then I had a few Hersheys Kisses to end my day at 1991 calories.

Workout: 50 minutes on the treadmill with a bit of incline added. I did try jogging for a full minute, and then kept walking. I did not do the elliptical tonite, wanted to see how my feet did on treadmill. Then my workout buddy and I did some teamwork drills with a medicine ball. Holy cow, it didn't even take that long but we were sweating. My shoulders and thighs will likely be sore tomorrow! I also did two of the ab machines in the ab room.

A weak moment

This whole workout thing, is totally a work in progress. It seems like every day I learn something new to help enhance it. Well, today...I had to crash to learn something...lol I did my 30 minutes on the elliptical, and was feeling kinda sluggish anyway (though I ended up being faster than yesterday), but as soon as I stepped off the ellip, I started feeling weak and dizzy. So I headed to the bathroom to sit down fora mintue and let my heart rate come back down. I talked to my trainer afterward, and she said it was because I ate literally right before I started. (Had a pbj on the way) So all my body's energy was involved in digestion. Good to know!!! I felt ok enough eventually and went on to do a bit more, see below, but it was kind of scary. A very good lesson learned.

Ok food...breakfast was some sandwich crackers and an applesauce. Midmorning I had a Russell Stovers peanut butter egg. Yes I know. But yum. Lunch was a KFC grilled chicken breast and mashed potatoes. My afternoon snack was crackers and almonds. Before my workout, I had a pbj. And afterward, my workout buddy and I took the kids to Schlotzsky's. I had a turkey bacon club sandwich, a few chips, and one small piece of D's pizza to end my day at 2203 calories.

Workout: 30 minutes on the elliptical at 3100 strides. And then 30 minutes of slow walking on the treadmill to stretch out my legs.

Back in the zone

So I've had the last two days off. Monday with a rest day, and yesterday with the storms. Well, this afternoon, I was wavering on hitting the gym. Then I picked up D, and he had a bad headache (his seizures are coming back which means headaches start up again). But thank GOD, he still wanted to go to the gym. So I was like F THIS, I'M GOING. I know if I stop, I'll lose my flow. And see below for how glad I am that I went!

Food: I had some sandwich crackers and applesauce for breakfast. Lunch was a small turkey bacon sandwich from Schlotzskys and two oatmeal raisin cookies. For a snack I had some almonds. Dinner was Chick Fil A nuggets and a side salad with ranch to end my day at 2182 calories. It doesn't seem like much huh?? A lot of that was the regular ranch on the salad...and I know there was mayo on the sandwich. But that's ok.

Workout: hopped my butt on the Precor elliptical and rocked out 30 minutes!! Hell yeah! That's 579 calories burned! I also noticed I'm getting faster. At 25 minutes on Sunday, I was at 2180 strides, and my stride count today at 25 minutes in was 2527. So without even trying, I'm going faster. This rocks! I also did 20 minutes on the treadmill at an easy pace to stay moving while my heart rate came back down after the ellip and stretch out my legs.

Unexpected rest day

So, what a day! We had some nasty storms come through the DFW area, and they are estimating about 10-12 tornadoes touched down. Due to the anxiety from this (one came pretty close to my work, though no damage), I didn't eat anything in the afternoon, and as it was storming when I picked up D, we ended up going home instead of to the gym. After all day of not having him with me, and his school on lockdown instead of dismissal for over an hour, all I wanted to do was cuddle with him. So we did. And it was soothing.

Ok food: for breakfast I had a granola bar and an applesauce. Lunch was a Dinty Moore beef stew meal and some crackers. I also had a fun size pouch of M&Ms in lieu of anxiety meds. Nothing til dinner where we ended up grabbing tacos. I had a little bit more chocolate this evening in the form of a few Hershey's Kisses, and then was still kinda hungry, so had an Easy Mac cup to end my day at 1749 calories.

No real workout, but I did do 25 crunches on my workout ball at home, and then the floor ab exercises that my trainer showed me, holding for up to 30 seconds each. I do really miss the gym though!!!

Monday, April 2, 2012

Rest day

Yay for Mondays! lol I didn't do one thing today as it was a lovely rest day. And my hamstrings are hurtin bad from the elliptical. Ouch.

Food: breakfast was a granola bar and some applesauce. Lunch was spaghetti-os, but then after about an hour or so, I was still so hungry! So I had a frozen meal panini sandwich and some chips. In the afternoon, I had some crackers. For dinner, I made chicken and spinach quesadillas and corn. And in the evening, I had some almonds and a small piece of chocolate to end my day at 1951 calories.

No workout!

Mini splurge and a new record

Today I had a minisplurge. And it was totally worth it. lol Both my workout buddy and I were craving a good burger, so we hit up Scotty P's. My only regret is not going to a place that has calorie counts, as that is always hard to estimate. But I think I did a decent job with that and probably overestimated abit, which is fine.

Breakfast was cheese sandwich crackers. Lunch was Scotty P's, I had the barbecue sauce burger, which was A-MAZING. I also had fries with ranch. YUM. I didn't have anything else til later this evening, I had some popcorn, and then some Easy Mac with frozen broccoli mixed in to end my day at 2186 calories.

Workout. Today I sucked it up and rocked out 25 minutes on the Precor elliptical! I noticed my stride count had gotten higher when I looked at 15 minutes in, so it looks like I'm getting a bit stronger too. Which rocks. I also did 15 minutes on the treadmill, and then about 20 minutes weight training.

Saturday, March 31, 2012

Busy day

And omg is it hot outside??!! I'm not ready for summer weather but it looks like it's about here.

It was a low day on calories, but not intentionally. I had a granola bar on the way to the gym. Then for lunch we hit up IHOP. I got the same thing as last time...the Two By Two By Two. Two scrambled eggs, two pancakes (sugarfree syrup) and two slices of bacon. I added two more slices...lol was hungry! After running some errands I had a smoothie from Smoothie King, with a shot of energy. And later at the park, I had some popcorn. This had me at 1280 calories at 9pm, which is not really a good thing with all the activity today...lol so I had some mashed potatoes and a little left over chicken to end my day at 1603 calories. Low, but one day won't hurt.

Workout: no elliptical today, my calves were SORE after the 20 yesterday. So I did 30 minutes on the treadmill, and then 30 min of weight training.

Friday, March 30, 2012

Slight splurge

So this morning I had to take D to get bloodwork done. He did a great job so we stopped to get donuts on the way to school. That kind of set the tone for the whole day so I had a tough time with it. I stayed ok on cals, but it was difficult. On the way home from the gym, it killed me to not stop and grab fast food, but I held out. The soreness in my legs was a great reminder though.

So I had a protein shake on the way to the hospital. Then at the donut shop, I had 3 kolaches and 5 donut holes, plus orange juice. Lunch was a frozen meal at work, plus a string cheese and applesauce. They had catered in lunch for the agents at work, so there was a ton of food leftover. I ended up having a mini dinner in the afternoon. Some tortilla chips, a bit of sourcream, some fajita chicken, and lots of salsa. I did not eat before the gym due to that, but afterward I had 1/2 a PBJ to end my day at 2174 calories.

Exercise: TWENTY minutes on the elliptical!!! And then 30 min of weight training and 10 minutes on the treadmill.

Elliptical fun

I pushed it a bit more...and did 15 minutes on the elliptical tonite! Woohoo! Crazy that 2 weeks ago I couldn't even do a minute.

Food was kinda high but I was so hungry from the workout! I'm not trying to starve myself...lol
Breakfast was a protein shake and some cheese crackers. Lunch was a frozen meal (pasta with spinach and a ricotta sauce: LOTS of spinach, but way good!). In the afternoon I had a string cheese and applesauce. And then a fun size pack of M&Ms (100 calories??? Yikes!). Before the workout, I had half a pbj. Afterward, we met some friends at IHOP. I had 2 scrambled eggs, 2 pancakes with sugarfree syrup, and bacon. Mmmmmm bacon. And a bit later, I had some Lipton butter noodles (without extra butter), to end my day at 2455 calories (with the workout that left me with another 339 calories I could have eaten.). However, geez, I need to add in more veggies or I need to go back to morning spinach smoothies!

Workout: 15 minutes on elliptical (almost 300 calories burned!) and then about 30 minutes in weight training.

I'm feeling good and stronger. Though I know I have a long way to go.

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Ouch

Yup, just as I thought yesterday, I'm sore today. My abs weren't sore this morning but I started feeling it through the day and by this evening, they are super tight and achy. I guess that means it was a great work out. So I'll take it, but ouch. Tonite I didn't do weights at all, just plenty of cardio.

Food: I did stray and hit up Sonic this morning, but only got a Jr Breakfast Burrito and an unsweet tea. Woot! Midmorning, I had a protein shake and some almonds. For lunch, I really debated getting fast food again, but I knew I couldn't go down that road as I'm in a great groove for work lunches, so I hit up the store for some frozen meals to replenish my stash at work. I had a pepperoni pizza pocket. In the afternoon, I had a string cheese and some apple sauce. When we got home, I had a PBJ, and then after the gym, I DID run by KFC. This was more of a bribe for D as he's been having accidents at the gym. I only got some popcorn chicken though. I was feeling off this evening, so I had another protein shake to end my day at 2343 calories.

Workout: I started with 10 minutes on the treadmill to warm up. Then I did ELEVEN minutes on the elliptical (woo!). Then 10 minutes on the recumbent bike and finally, back to the treadmill for 25 minutes.

Trainer day

So today I had my first meeting with a personal trainer at the gym. I'm not so sure about this chick, but I'll give it another meeting or two. After the preliminary weight analysis, etc (which I felt very shameful through, which I think was kind of exacerbated by how she approached it all), she put me through the paces of some ab exercises to strengthen my core. I'm supposed to do these every day and work up to 3 sets of each by next week. I will say, it did make me feel good when she finally said I was further along than she originally thought I'd be. I didn't really feel it at the time, in fact I went on to do TEN minutes on the elliptical (that's right, ten!!!) and then joined my workout buddy for a few minutes on the hip machines. But it started creeping in once I got home. I will likely be sore tomorrow.

Ok on to food. It was a decent enough day. I had a protein shake for breakfast. Then some almonds mid morning. Lunch was ravioli and some fritos. Before the gym, I had a pbj. And when we got home, I had a frozen Steamfresh thing, which was rotini, broccoli, and a cheese sauce. I was hungry and kinda low on cals so I added some more noodles to it. I'm ending my day at 2053 calories.

Workout, I did 10 min on the treadmill while waiting on my trainer. Spent 30 minutes with her. Then 10 min on the elliptical, and about 20 minutes on some of the machines.

Monday, March 26, 2012

Rest day

And it was much needed.

Food...breakfast was Easy Mac. Lunch was some beef stew and then some Fritos. Dinner, I made baked chicken, potatoes and green beans. I was up late and had a craving for noodles so I made some plain ones with just a little I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray and garlic salt to end my day at 1933 calories.

Workout: not one bit, and it was awesome. :P Tomorrow I meet with a personal trainer at the gym. I paid for 4 sessions, just to get a good handle on my gym rotations, make sure I'm doing things right.

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Day before a rest day

Today was a day where I knew that I was on my own to workout, and it was a day that I like to sleep in. Ordinarily, I would have had to talk myself into going to workout, and likely would have bailed, but today, it wasn't a problem. I did sleep in my workout attire, but I was up and ready to go, looking forward to it!

For food, I kinda drank a lot of my cals today! lol Breakfast was a PBJ again. And then after the workout and a shower at home, we met up with friends for lunch at Torchy's Tacos. I had some chips and queso, and then 2 potato, egg and cheese tacos. YUMMY! However, I also had their awesome Black Cherry soda. Mmmmm, nothing light about that. On the way home, we grabbed a drink from Sonic, I had sweet tea. This evening for dinner, I just had some simple nachos to end my day at 2275 calories. Geez, almost 600 of those cals were on drink alone. Yeah I'll be sticking to unsweet tea and/or diet soda now (which I've been doing good with overall, not sure what happened today). (I would like it noted that to lose two pounds a week, I can technically have up to 2350 cals...so I'm not too worried about cals, and I did workout so that gives me even more. Hence why my cals have been ranging around 2100 or so. On my rest days, I plan to drop that down to 1700ish. Just FYI if you are wondering why I've been over 2000 most days.)

Exercise...I did a hard workout today as I know tomorrow is a rest day. So I did 30 min on the treadmill. Then, I did SIX minutes on the Precor Elliptical (remember, yesterday's 5 minutes...yeah bumped that UP today). And then about 30-40 minutes on the weights. My triceps are kinda sore but otherwise, I'm feeling decent. (But I will def enjoy tomorrow's rest day!)

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Unexpected progress

So...it's been over a full week since we started working and today I noticed some neat progress. If you'll remember last week, I tried the Precor Elliptical. Yeah, I barely made it a minute before I had to stop for a second. I stayed on it for 5 minutes but it wasn't pretty. Plus, after that, my legs would barely hold me up, and my thighs were SO sore the next day! Well, today, I hopped on it, and was able to do 5 minutes straight! Ok, it was a SLOW 5 minutes at times, but I did not stop once. Even better, no leg weakness and no soreness! Score! It was neat to see the difference in just one week. So that was cool.

Ok on to food...breakfast was a PBJ before the workout. Afterward, we hit up Chili's. I had some chips and salsa, a house salad (no croutons) and then the Lighter Side sirloin steak which just came with broccoli, no rice or potatoes. That steak was freakin awesome. lol I had kind of an early dinner after some park time for D, a corn dog and then some tater tots. Later on in the evening, I had a bowl of spaghetti and a glass of milk since I was a bit hungry. This ended my day at 2168 calories.

Workout was 15 min on the treadmill, 5 min on the elliptical, and about 30 min doing weight training.

Friday, March 23, 2012

Crap food day

I started off with good intentions today. I had my now usual Easy Mac and a banana for breakfast, and added a small bottle of gatorade as I was feeling kinda dehydrated. Lunch, I was planning on having a slice of pizza that they catered in at work, and then I went and drove around to enjoy the weather and swung by Chick Fil A. I asked for grilled nuggets, a fruit cup and an unsweet tea. (Trying to be good). Well they gave me regular nuggets. So I had 1.5 slices of pizza (I caved on that half and it screwed me up the rest of the day), plus the nuggets, fruit cup and unsweet tea. No snack. After work, I didn't wanna go home, was feeling emotional and was kinda upset, and had no one to join us for dinner. I remembered that I had two free passes to the Studio Movie Grill, so I took D to see the Lorax. It was super cute, but that was a BAD place for me to be! Ended up splitting cheese fries with D, and got a pizza to eat. Boo. Blech. Need to work on this emotional eating crap. Story of my life. Not sure on the cals but I think I was around 2500 or so. Tomorrow is a new day.

Today was a forced rest day from the gym as they closed early for renovations. I've found this week that I do really well with eating when I've worked out. It's a mental thing, I don't wanna kill it after working so hard. So I'll be glad to get back to it tomorrow. No actual workout, though I have been cleaning house this evening like a crazy person. Maybe some sleep will help this mood I'm in.

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Longest day at the gym

But it feels so good! I think I may be gettin addicted to this adrenaline rush...lol

Ok on to food...breakfast was Easy Mac (yeah I know but its easy...lol) and a banana. I had a protein bar midday. Lunch was a turkey sandwich from Jimmy Johns and a pickle. In the afternoon, I had some yogurt. Right before the workout, I had a PBJ. And this evening, I tried some of this broccoli cheese rice frozen thing, but it was yucky, so I settled for leftover spaghetti to end my day at 2185 cals.

Workout was 30 minutes on the weight machines, plus 30 min on the treadmill, 10 min on the bike, 5 min on the elliptical which whoops my butt!, and then this one machine in the ab room that I am SO goin to feel tomorrow in my abs! lol

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Workin it out

Another day, another workout!

Food today was: breakfast was Easy Mac and a banana. Lunch was a frozen meal and an applesauce. Then early afternoon I had a protein shake. I took D to the doc this afternoon so nothing else til right before the workout, we skimmed by Taco Bell and I had a couple crunchy tacos. This evening after the gym, I had a pbj sandwich and am ending my day at, oddly enough, exactly 1700 calories.

Workout was 30 minutes on the treadmill, and then about 30 min or so going through the weight machines.

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Back from a rest day

Made sure to go get my groove on this evening at the gym! So yay, that makes 4/5 days this week so far! I'm pretty tired after being up most of last night due to the storms and D's fear of thunder, so going to make this brief and head to bed.

Food: Breakfast was a protein shake, but then I was kinda hungry midmorning so had a cup of Easy Mac and a banana. Lunch was ravioli, some Fritos, and apple sauce. I had a yogurt in the afternoon. Then I had a PBJ before my workout. I was going to have salad afterward, but my lettuce was yucky. BOO. So I had some spaghetti and a Vitamin Water to end my day at 2111 calories.

For my workout, I did 30 min on the treadmill, and then my usual weight machine routine. It took about 30 minutes to get through that.

Monday, March 19, 2012

Rest day

Yay I got to rest my poor thighs today. They are still pretty sore but I'll be back tomorrow working them to get strengthened. Can't wait!

Food today wasn't stellar. I forgot this evening that we had to run an errand so ended up grabbing fast food. Blah. Breakfast was a protein shake, and then a yogurt midmorning. Lunch was a frozen meal plus some fritos and applesauce. Dinner was a burger and small fries. It could have been worse I guess, but blech. This evening I had my tbsp of honey to end my day at 1980 calories.

No workout today. Yay! :P

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Sore sore sore

SO I woke up this morning with my thighs aching from the workout yesterday. I guess that means it was a good one! Ha. After falling yesterday, I am now determined to strengthen my thighs more so that this doesn't happen again. So I made sure to work that area today at the gym. I'm paying for it though. OUCH. I'm so glad that tomorrow is a rest day. I realized last night that it's SO not gonna go well with D if I keep him up late every night of the week to workout, so I'm taking off Mondays and maybe Thursdays. My body will need the rest as well. I want to be smart about this but also get into a good routine.

Food was decent today. I made a huge grocery shopping trip so this week should be good too! I didn't have much for breakfast, just some cheese and crackers, and then 2 small bottles of gatorade during the workout. Afterward, we went to go eat at Jason's Deli. Yes, again. lol I had a cup of broc cheese soup, a big salad, and added some grilled chicken to it. I also had some apple slices and a small choc ice cream. This afternoon, I had a bottle of Vitamin Water. This evening, I had my tbsp of local honey, and then a banana, Lipton Butter noodles (no butter added), and a glass of 1% milk. Yummy! I ended my day at 2026 calories.

Workout...20 minutes on the treadmill, then 10 minutes on the stationary bike, and then about an hour doing the weight machines. My workout buddy and I have kinda gotten into a routine of what to do. We spent over an hour at the grocery store too. Mommy is ready for bed!

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Long day

But a good day. I overslept a bit so was about 10 minutes late to the gym. I'm so glad I have a workout buddy because odds are, without knowing she was waiting, I likely would have skipped it. But we did good. Spent about 1.5 hours there. And apparently I worked out SO good that my legs had no more energy left in them when we left. I stepped down off the step and BAM, my knee gave way and I hit the ground. Fortunately, I'd already changed into my jeans so the concrete didn't tear my knee up too bad.

Ok on to food. I did pretty good today. Before the workout, I had some peanut butter crackers and 1.25 bottles of gatorade during it. Afterward, my workout buddy and I took our kiddos to Chili's for lunch. I had some chips and salsa, and then the sweet and spicy chicken (grilled chicken with a sauce, plus rice and broccoli). I added a house salad to that with ranch (but took off the croutons), and unsweet tea. In the afternoon, I had another bottle of gatorade. And for dinner, D and I hit up Jason's Deli. I had a cup of broccoli cheese soup, a salad, and some apple slices to end my day at 2020 calories.

For workout, I did 5 minutes on the elliptical (which is what got my legs all trembly and weak...lol). Then 15 min on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the stationary bike, and then the weight training. Yesterday, we did just 1 set of 15 reps each on everything. Today we bumped to 3 sets of 15 reps each for most things. Then after eating lunch, we walked around the outlet mall near us for over 2 hours, and ended up circling the entire mall. I'm tired!! But feeling good...even my knee doesn't feel too bad from where I fell on it. Gotta keep moving!

Friday, March 16, 2012

Let's get this started

Ok day 1. It's not a pretty picture. I weighed in at 347.2. Now granted that's not the highest I've been. I've topped out at 360lbs so...yeah. But still. BAD. According to Lose It, where I track my food, I can have 2339 calories a day to lose 2 lbs a week. Well, my goals are more than that, so I likely won't be near that many cals. I'd like to keep it around 1700-1800 a day. But we'll see.

Ok on to the food tracking. Due to extenuating circumstances (have been fighting a nasty sore throat the last two weeks), I need to have something hot and soft for breakfast. So I've taken to having a bowl of Easy Mac. It works well enough to soothe my throat. I added a banana to it this morning as well afterward, and a glass of unsweet tea for abit of caffeine. Lunch was chicken noodle soup and applesauce. I had two tbsps of local honey (hoping it helps my allergies), one of those was in a cup of lemon echinacea hot tea. For an afternoon snack, I had some yogurt (and 4 starburst), and then some peanut butter crackers. Before working out tonite I had some popcorn chicken. And then late this evening I had a bowl of noodles with some I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and garlic salt to end my day at 2099 calories.

For exercise, my friend and I hit the gym for the first time and did 18 minutes on the treadmill, and then about 40 minutes of weight training. We ran through most of the machines, so worked all our muscles. My arms and legs feel like rubber...but it's a good feeling. I'll be ramping up the treadmill work too. Getting it going!

Oops here we go again

So apparently life gets in the way FAST. It's been two months since I updated. Uggh, sorry, folks. It's been an interesting 2 months, but nothing too bad. We've dealt with some D issues., I've been sick the last two weeks as well, and have turned solely to comfort food, which has NOT been good. So, I gotta turn this around.

Tonite, my friend and I joined a gym. It's nothing fancy, a small place, with a ton of cardio and weight equipment. No pool, no smoothie bar. Oh and they have childcare. LOVE that. SO we are starting tomorrow. I'm making a sticker chart for myself. If I go 3 days in a week, I get one sticker. For every extra day I go, I get an extra sticker. Not sure what the reward will be, but it's going to be a smallish one every 10 stickers, and a big one like a night out, at 50 stickers. I dunno, that one is fluid right now.

Also, as of tomorrow I'm going to start posting everything I eat on here every day. So feel free to take a look, comment, whatever. I need all the support I can get. I'll weigh in the morning too. Blah. It's bad...really bad. But...starting over is better than continuing to go backward. I'm glad my friend joined the gym with me, I'll have some accountability.

So there ya have it...this is becoming a weight loss blog again. Woot! I might even post some pics of what I eat...who knows...stay tuned.

Smoothie fun

I'm delving into the world of smoothies for breakfast. What a tasty adventure...

This morning, I tried a combination of this Fruit/Protein juice by Silk, plus frozen mixed fruit, some spinach, and a little box of Fruitables Apple Harvest juice (which is fruit/veggie juice). It was really good, and I blended it up, tossed it in a cup and drank it on the way to work, which worked perfectly.

The only thing I need to work on is prep time. Since I played around with the liquids and stuff, it took more time than I intended. But it was fun, and I will be trying it again tomorrow with some different items. I also need to find something to add in for more protein as I was starving at work by 930am. Not a good thing. If you have tips on that, please share!

One week down...

It's been a week since I started back on modified Paleo. I gotta say, days 2 and 3 sucked really bad. But I pushed through it, and over the weekend, the cravings weren't near bad. Now, they aren't bad at all, a twinge every now and then for what I want, but overall much better. And
ya can't beat 8 lbs down. :) One key thing I am using is the word "later". During the cravings, I keep telling myself, I can have that "later". That I can have this "later". Everything "later". And
eventually that later will be never.

Ok so here's where I get real. I'd love for it to be all happy happy joy joy sunshine and rainbows up in here, but sadly, it can't be. Yes, I'm hanging tight to the eating, and overall, things are going well in my life, but I'm having so much trouble shaking some depression. I know that part of it goes along with the diet. It happens every time. When I'm dieting, I'm eating at home, not having social opportunities, and it just spirals, not having good adult interaction. But this is more than that. I don't even want to do social things right now. I cancelled a mom's night in at my house this weekend because I just couldn't deal with the anxiety of having people over (ya want honest, there, that's honest). And the worst part is, I can't figure out how to get out of this slump. I figure I'll give it a bit longer and then talk to my doctor, be proactive. It sure is getting to me though. It doesn't help that I'm lonely, though that's not anything new. I need to push myself
more right now to get out, but that's hard when dieting is just getting ramped up, and the weather is yucky right now.

I do think that this losing weight stuff will help some, and if I can get active more, that will help too. And I can not WAIT til March when I have my surgery. I know that will require some healing time but at least one of my problems will be taken care of.

Ok enough of my complaining, if you got this far, hey, you got this far, good for you! Next post will be more cheerful, I'll try to find a good happy news article for ya.

Paleo basics

Ok so here I am on day two of modified Paleo, and I thought I'd explain a little more about exactly what it is.

I'm pulling most of my info from here: http://www.robbwolf.com/faq

The basic of it is this:

Lean proteins (ideally) grass fed meat, free range fowl and wild caught fish
Seasonal fruits and vegetables
Healthy fats such as nuts, seeds, avocado, olive oil, and coconut oil

So no bread, no potatoes, no rice, no pasta, no soda. Ideally, no dairy or sugar, but I'm keeping those in there (in small amounts) to make it doable for me longterm. Also, certain things that we think of as veggies, are kind of borderline, such as corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, but I am keeping those in as well. The first time I committed to this in Oct 2010, I committed for a month, and felt great! This time, I'm not putting an end date on it. I'd love to do it all year, but right now, it's one day at a time.

The website I put above has tons of forums to get more info, so if you are seriously considering it, definitely check em out!

Happy New Year!

It all begins tomorrow. Jan 3rd, 2012. This is the year to get healthy and STAY healthy. I'll be weighing in tomorrow morning, and might just post it on here. We'll see how I feel about it...lol I just went through and cleaned out a bunch of junk from my house and tomorrow evening, D and I will be making a Sprouts trip to refill the house with fruits, veggies, and meat. As of right now, I'm going Paleo, but modified like I did last year. I'm ready for it, I hate how my body feels on junk food. So let's do this!
