Hmph

Well, in good news, I'm back in the gym.  I went last Tuesday and Thursday, and will be going tonite, tomorrow, and Wednesday of this week.

In bad news, holy hell, my heel spur is bothering me like crazy!  Both nights at the gym, I did 20 minutes on the elliptical (it's been two months since working out, I know that I'm going to need to work back up again to that hour I was hitting on it), and then hopped on the treadmill for a bit to keep my heart rate up and stretch my legs out.  But even on the elliptical, where there's no impact, my heel started hurting.  I've been wearing my thick soled walking shoes that I'm supposed to wear to help my feet.  Pretty sure I'm going to have to break down and get the cortisone shot I've been postponing.  Boo.  My heel ached all weekend as well despite me continuing to wear the good (albeit kinda ugly) walking shoes.  I've been icing it and doing the plantar fasciitis exercises and stretches.  Any other ideas aside from breaking down and getting the shot?  I don't really want to pay $400 for orthotics either.

But at least I'm getting back into a routine.  If nothing else, I'll stick to weight machines for awhile to keep me off my foot, but I do so love the elliptical!

Ouch!

Well that was fun.  Saturday before last, I had a raging headache all day, the kind that you just want to stay in a dark, cool room and hibernate with.  Well, it's 106 degrees here so my house won't cool completely, and I have an 8 year old hot mess.  Didn't happen, but at least I could keep it dark.  Hah.  In any case, it only got worse, stretching into Sunday, Monday, then Tuesday.  I finally headed to urgent care.  Turns out I had both a sinus and ear infection, with my ear drum very close to busting.  Hello, shot of antibiotics in the butt.  TMI, I know.  I thought I had some sinus issues, I'd had more drainage lately, and the week before all that, every now and then, my eye would get itchy, and if I barely touched it, it would go bloodshot.  So I knew something was up but had no idea it was that bad.  During my 4 days home, I did make sure to rock the smoothies, packing in extra spinach.  I can't say I didn't have comfort food otherwise, but I did try to get my vitamins upped.

Several days later now, I just finished antibiotics (yup, pill form as well) and ear drops, and I still have a mild headache most of the day.  But at least the eye issue is gone, and it's not THAT bad.  It's liveable.  I know the heat is playing a part.  I also ended up really dehydrated today, so have been pumping in water, and downed a bottle of gatorade at lunch.  MUST stay on top of the water!!!  These fat cells need it apparently...lol

My goal this week is to get in 3 days of working out.  I need to get back on schedule with that!

That fruit/veggie goodness

Every day this week except today, I've made a smoothie in the morning.  They consist of 2 handfuls of fresh spinach, a handful of frozen strawberries, handful of frozen blueberry, and a splash or two of V8 fruit/veggie juice (there are so many different ways, this is just what I have on hand right now).  And all 3 mornings, I have a lot of energy, feel good, mommy super strength.  Now, I've done smoothies before, and each time, I had this feeling too.  There's just something about chugging all that raw goodness!  In any case, I did not make a smoothie this morning and I can def say that even with rockin the caffeine, I'm feeling sluggish.  Just thought I'd note this.  I love my ugly smoothies (although with the blueberries, they aren't super ugly, very purple-ish, instead of rotten green...lol) and I promise, if you are hesitant to try them, you seriously can NOT taste the spinach or tell it's in there other than color.  Try it sometime!!!!  Once I put sliced cucumber in there...still couldn't taste it, but it added a really neat freshness to the smoothie.  Sometimes, I add greek yogurt, or if I have banana, I'll add some peanut butter.  I tend to use frozen fruits so that I don't have to add ice.  What is your fave smoothie combo?

Not just a one time post

See?  I didn't really leave you guys...still here.  Second post this week, go me!

Update from yesterday, I ended up not going to the gym.  When I picked D up, he'd had an awful day, so we went straight home and I put him to bed after dinner.  The good news, I made a totally kickass dinner and he devoured it.  What was it?  A grilled cheese sandwich with avocado and East Texas tomato slices inside.  YUM!  I used I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray on the bread and a bit of garlic salt, so aside from the cheese, it really wasn't too bad.  I used less cheese on mine and it was still delicious.  Add a side of fruit (natural applesauce for D, an orange for me) and you have a meal that is simple, easy, and no oven (too hot here for that!).

Today I'm taking D to his GI doctor appt in the afternoon, but otherwise it should be a fairly typical day, so I should be able to stay on track esp since I already have food at work (and already had my ugly smoothie this morning too!)

Almost 3 months later

Ooof.  I'm a slacker, sheesh.  Not that I didn't have enough going on the last 3 months.  My last post was on May 2nd regarding date night.  Well, I WAS dating someone.  It ended towards the end of May.  I have since seriously slacked on working out and eating good, and in fact the first month, I didn't even ATTEMPT to eat decent.  It wasn't pretty.  However I've held a few things together (such as not falling back into downing Dr Pepper...that was a BIGGIE for me), but yeah, I've gone backwards.  So...today is a new day.  It's had a good start, I got up early and made an ugly spinach smoothie (those are SO stinkin yummy!), and have already downed 32oz of water at 11:15am.  I also went to the store at lunchtime and got decent food for teh whole week for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, so I have no excuse whatsoever for leaving the office at lunchtime.  This evening, we are planning to hit up the gym.  I am pretty sure that I'm back at square one, but that's ok, it didn't take me long to work up to that hour on the elliptical.

Ok so 3 months...time flew.  Here's what else went on!  Well, there was the dating.  She ended it.  That's right.  She.  I did go on 2 dates with another chick shortly after, who I connected pretty well with, but ended up realizing pretty quick that I needed time to heal.  So I cut that off.  I can't say I haven't browsed around online or talked to a couple of other chicks, but overall, I'm trying to use this time to process and just make sure I'm fully prepared next time around.  And I can't say that I'm not a little jaded from the whole experience, but I guess that's a part of life.  I did learn a lot from it, took a lot away from it, so I can honestly say I do not regret it.

I had a birthday last week.  I'm now 33 years old.  Not quite old but not quite young, I'm not sure where I fit in.   In any case, happy freakin bday to me.  Weekend before last, D and I took a roadtrip to Missouri to see one of my best friends.  It was just what I needed, to get out of Dallas and Texas for a second.  Unfortunately we kinda brought the hot weather with us.  Oh well.

Ok on to the boychild.  He had a birthday in June.  He is now 8 years old going on 30.  He had an MRI done on his foot, there's a lump there.  The orthopedist determined though that it was just cartilage and some bone, wasn't doing him any harm and it could safely stay on his foot as long as it's not bothering him (it's not).  And really soon now (1 month!!!), he will be going into second grade.  *gasp* I know!  So I've been getting ready for that.

He also is about to see another specialist.  The last two years he has battled eating issues.  He was actually diagnosed as failure to thrive for awhile, might still be, I'm not sure how they determine that.  But regardless, he's skinny.  His weight has definitely fluctuated.  He'd gain a pound and then lose 2.  However, his new pedi (SO GLAD WE SWITCHED) thinks she knows what it is and is sending us to a GI doctor to get an endoscopy done.  Will update on that later.

I believe that's about it.  I'm definitely back to updating this again so stay tuned, much more to come.

Date night

I knew it was gonna be bad well in advance.  We went to Cheesecake Factory.  I wish I'd looked at the menu ahead of time though, as they now have a Skinnilicious menu that looked pretty good!  But I had barely eaten all day to accommodate, and already knew what I wanted, so I didn't deviate.

All I really ate during the day was some Spaghetti-os that I shared with D.  He had to be at work with me for a big portion of the day.  So by the time we got to dinner I was starving.  That might not be the best idea again, but I have such a hard time esp if around other people who eat typical.  I did manage to only have one small piece of sourdough bread.  Then I got the crusted chicken romano.  Basically, parmesan chicken with spaghetti.  I ate half the chicken, and then about 1/4th of the pasta (huge portions!).  We did order cheesecake, but split a piece and I took exactly two bites and then put my fork down.  That was GOOD cheesecake tho.  lol  I also had a glass of sweet tea to end my day at 2102 calories.

No workout today as we didn't get home til really late, but I feel like I was on the go all day just nonstop.  Tomorrow will be back to the gym.

Home workout

I feel so stupid...like really really stupid.  Today ended up being another day where I couldn't hit the gym.  D had such an awful day at school, that I had to get him early, and I just couldn't reward him with a gym trip.  He was in bed early and I was sitting on the couch bemoaning the fact that I couldn't workout.  Do you see where the stupidity is coming in?  Hell, I even used to have a trainer who would COME to my house.  I KNOW what I can do at home.  Cue lightbulb moment.  See below for what I ended up doing.

Food wasn't great, I really struggled with emotional eating today.  I kept my cals ok, but not proud of the choices.  Breakfast was some crackers.  For lunch, I had a heat up beef stew meal, and then a string cheese and some chips.  Dinner was a corn dog and some curly fries with a bit of light ranch.  And then in the evening, I added vodka to my Diet Dr Pepper to end my day at 2008 calories.

Workout:  once my lightbulb moment hit, I got busy!  Put my headphones on and busted out 3 sets of 15 squats, then 2 sets of 30 ball crunches.  I also grabbed my 12 lb weight and did tricep dips, bicep curls, and I don't know what it's called but where I held the weight out in front of me straight, and then out to the side straight.  (My arms were SO trembly after that).  Then to shake it all out and just get some cardio in, I did some general dancing around to the music til I got nice and sweaty.  It felt great!
